TDS, Noren (curtain for doors), Seven Lucky Gods Takarabune Brush, 85x150 cm, Item no. 20840
Noren are traditional Japanese curtains that are hung in rooms, door frames or windows. They were initially intended to provide shade, but were later also installed over entrance doors to make it easier for customers to recognise entrances and exits.
Noren are still used today by restaurants and shops to provide elegant and artistic protection from sunlight, wind and dust on the one hand, but also to serve as a practical privacy screen on the other.
In addition, a noren is used to indicate to customers that the shop is open, as noren are usually taken down at closing time.
